Memorial Day - Flag Placement

Posted on May 17 2020 - 12:21pm

It is a tradition within Pack 86 to place flags on the graves of veterans in remembrance of the sacrifice of those who served to keep us free.  This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the usual Pack activity has been modified.  The official Council position is that no Pack-wide activities will take place this year.  However, we will coordinate with the local veteran's groups to allow families to place flags as family units rather than as Dens.  The placement will be at Mt Rest Cemetary in Butler on Wednesday, May 20th after 5:00pm.  Because this is not a Pack sanctioned activity, scouts and leaders should not wear their uniforms.  Participants should bring their own personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks and gloves.  Also, bring a screwdriver to make the holes for the flag staffs. Please keep alert for additional information.  There will also be a signup for this event so that we can tell the veteran group coordinator how many participants they can expect.

COVID-19 & Pack 86 - April 20, 2020

Posted on Apr 20 2020 - 10:50pm
To the members of Pack 86

I hope this message finds you safe and well as we make our way through the Coronavirus pandemic. I want to provide you with a update on Pack 86. All in-person activities and meetings are suspended indefinately in response to orders from the Governor of NJ and reccomendations from the CDC as well as the BSA. The Northern NJ Council is closed and staff is operating remotely. Council camps are also closed. Resuming Pack activities will be considered as directives and reccomendations change.

Some things to note:
  • Weboree (exclusively for Weblos) has been rescheduled to Sept. 25-27. Registration is open on the Council website.
  • The May Camping Trip and Air Show at McGuire has been cancelled.
  • At this time Council Summer camps plan to open and operate.
  • Howl-o-ween at Camp Lewis is October 24-25. Scouts who attended last year had a great time. Scouts can attend with their unit (and Akela) or on their own (with Akela).
  • Make sure to check in with your Den Leaders to see if your Den has anything going on.

In the meantime Scouts can continue to work on requirements and electives at home, having them ready for the Leaders to review and approve once the Pack resumes meetings and activities. If you have questions about what your scout should be working on please contact their Den Leader via email.

As we make our way through the coming days, keep in mind the Scout Oath and Law that each Scout has committed to live by. Our first priority is the health and safety of the members of Pack 86 as well as all those around us. Should you have any questions please reach out to Dan Hawkins, Cubmaster or I via email.

Yours in Scouting
Michael Earle
